Our commitment to Responsible Travel
Our vision is to develop and promote authentic and unique travel experiences which will bring the greatest possible benefit to travelers, the local communities and especially the entrepreneurs with whom we work. In addition, we try to minimize our environmental impact and respect the special way of life in each of the destinations we offer.
Responsible Tourism is twofold, first it requires that travel companies, hotels, governments, and local people take responsibility for the negative impacts that tourism can have and try to mitigate those impacts, taking a more holistic and inclusive approach to the development of tourism. Second, it’s about the traveler, traveling responsibly, doing what one can, enjoying a new destination like normal but being more aware of tourism’s impact. and making adjustments to the way in which one travels in order to reduce those negative impact. We are passionate about travel, so it is natural we want our trips to maximize the benefits that tourism can bring to local communities. We strongly believe that our tours should directly benefit the communities we visit whenever possible through the principles of sustainable travel; minimizing environmental impacts and optimizing community benefits without sacrificing the quality, comfort or character of your vacation.
Who is behind Espíritu Travel
Karin Eckhard, CEO
After having traveled to over 45 countries, Colombia is by far one of the most beguiling destinations I have ever visited, maybe that is why I have traveled to the Andean country so many times.
, it never ceases to amaze me the incredible diversity of the world. The beautiful landscapes, the interesting people you meet along with way and the breadth of food that needs to be tasted (although I’m a vegan, which can be a challenge in itself when traveling).
I have worked my entire professional career in the travel industry in one way or another, hotels, international tour operator and finally as a consultant in sustainable tourism.
I love to share my passion of travel with people and even better, create interesting and fun itineraries for travelers.
Eduardo Moratalla, Communications Director
Communicating the essence of a country is not easy.
Being able to transmit the history, culture, personality and the magic of Colombia is the one of the most amazing challenges of my career.
I have known Colombia for many years now, and it is one of those places that each time I traveled, I found a new country full of the same charming people.
With Espíritu Travel, I want to convey all those emotions that exist in Colombia to Americans and making it possible for them to experience everything I love about this country.
Peter Gagne, Business Development Manager
Being an entrepreneur is not easy even in the United States, however it pales in comparison to the difficulties faced by entrepreneurs in other countries, like Colombia.
I am amazed at Colombians’ work ethic and determination to succeed under such environment. I have great admiration for them and enjoy working with them.
For the past 20 years, I have successfully started and run two domestic tourism/outdoor recreation businesses but I am thrilled to bring my expertise to this company and be a part of Espíritu Travel team.
Irene Zapata, Community Manager
Capturing the culture and the vibrancy of the Latin American country and the warmth of the Colombian people is a challenge but I love trying to keep up with Colombia’s rhythm.
From the people to the culture, nature and archeological treasures, the Andean country holds secrets that I love exploring and sharing with our clients.
I have worked as a Community Manager in different projects, but joining Espíritu Travel is one of the best decisions I have made.
The impact that the Responsible Tourism Espíritu Travel practices is positive both for the local communities and the environment, and that is way of traveling I am very proud to promote.
